My name is Brian. Cincinnati, Ohio is my hometown. I’ve been into Crowley and Thelema for a while now, and just recently came across the works of Kenneth Grant. Being a bibliophile, I just recently purchased all nine of the Typhonian Trilogies and am currently finishing up Magical Revival. I am here to lurk and learn and share what I can.
I discovered this forum via the Starfire Publishing website.
One thing I will mention: I find it nothing short of mind-blowing that, once upon a time, Nema was here, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and was part of a Thelemic group called the Cincinnati Chapter of the Crowned and Conquering Child. She and Grant were close friends, and she considered Grant her mentor. Nema’s group had a publishing house here at one time as well, publishing the Cincinnati Journal of Ceremonial Magick.
One would never know it now. It’s all gone, and Cincinnati has an earned reputation as being a very repressed, conservative city, typical of the midwestern USA.
I’ve been seeking to “find the others” but nothing yet. Again, it’s pretty dead here, most especially post-COVID. All the local meetup groups are still pretty dormant. It sure would be nice to revive some of what used to be here. I doubt anyone else here on this forum is from my neck of the woods, but, hey, if so, let me know!
Regards,
Brian

Thank you for your introduction Brian. Things are quiet here too, but welcome all the same.
No, not from your neck of the woods; I am based in Woodhouse a village-suburb of Sheffield in South Yorkshire, but I am aware of the past magickal credentials of Cincinnati and have several early editions of the Cincinnati Journal of Ceremonial Magick if that helps.
You may be aware that Nema contributed an essay/chapter to Servants of the Star & the Snake - not that I am encouraging you to buy even more books! I trust that you will find the Typhonian Trilogies rewarding.
Regards and 93.

Thanks Stephen.
I have that book, actually, and just recently read that essay "Kenneth Grant and Maat." I had to smile when she mentioned that in late '73, she and her group did a rite out at "Oz Farm in Brown County."
I know exactly where that is, it's about 25 miles east of my location.
It was nice to see the relationship she developed with Grant. My understanding is that Nema's work got him to reconsider his views on Achad and this whole Aeon of Maat business?
Having just finished up Magical Revival, I couldn't help but notice his somewhat dismissive attitude toward Achad.
Regards
Brian

"Oz Farm in Brown County" conjures up some eldritch Lovecraftian imagery for me.
KG's treatment of Frater Achad in TMR is fairly brief, he returns to him in more detail in a chapter in Cults of the Shadow and here again is rather dismissive. Then, as you say, his estimation changed for a number of reasons which are too involved for me to deal with concisely here. I have to say that I am not an admirer of Achad and go along with what KG had to say in COS on the whole.
As the Typhonian Trilogies progress, the plot thickens as might be said. More to discuss in future possibly.
