Greetings Fraters,
It is rare that Grant provided any operational methods in his work. In this book though, he did. It is very subtle, and as many times is the case, is already out in the general population. What he did, was point to something already there, and indicated there is more than what is generally visible.
Resh Vel Helios, as many will know, is the adoration of the sun, to be performed at each quarter, 4 times per day. However, it is in reality a ritual of the Black Sun, when performed a certain way. I think this is even a more potent ritual than Liber Samekh.
One thing I came to realize, in the few pages where he honors his commitment set out to disclose key arcana, which to me is the magical height of the Trilogies, is that any ritual that involves addressing the quarters (space stations), the actual forces are between the stations, as he so often remarks, and is central to Spare's system. This includes the well known LBRP. The forces are accumulated in the stations, which cause the gates, or vortices, to open in between. So therefore, and this truth is rarely discussed or written, the LBRP is an invocation, not a banishing. The banishing effect is the invocation of Spirit which leaves no space for the elements.
But, and I don't know why this is not more widely communicated, this is not the effect most think of from banishing. Referring to the Dr. Strange movie, when there are warnings, they always put them at the end of the grimoire...d'oh! In this case there are few if any about this.
So, before I continue, you should know of a real 'protection' ritual, technically at the 5=6 grade, but it may be needed for any grade. You may or may not understand why this is necessary for me to post before the technical aspects of Resh. This is the Ritual of the Rose Cross. The version I have is by Dr. R. Felkins, of the Stella Matutina, Ware-Ra order he co-founded after a splinter with the Golden Dawn. This is basically an order of the Black Sun, which will come into play in a few paragraphs. While this is not the focus of this post, it will be important to know about, as the thread develops. You can do the Qabalah yourself to find the keys, but I will point out that the focus of this ritual is the 'space gates' and not the 'space stations' as so many others are. I will also warn, if you have not done this before, to expect a strong 'reflex' of the universe. This is because, in your workings with the Light, invariably attract critters, visitors, and who knows what other 'Ones' that take an interest in your Light, like bugs to a flame. When this ritual is performed, you throw a magical cloak over yourself, think the Cloak of Invisibility from the Tolkien books.
Because you amped up the light, and then suddenly disappear from your observers, I found there is an anger and/or confusion that ensues among your astral entourage. This has manifested for me in various ways, almost always immediately after the ritual. This is the shock/rebalancing reflex reflected in Assiah. In a few cases, some things happened where I could have been seriously injured. So I suggest, have a place where you can cool down, let the reflex kick in and rebalance. The critters are not that smart, and will lose interest and wander off in a while. It could be that very interested parties still hanging out, in which case you might have a bigger problem - but you are still protected under the cloak. Also, this cloak begins to thin right away, and you will have to determine if/when you need to reapply it via the formula. Effectively this seals off the gates, which are the points of ingress and egress gateways between the stations.
Back to the Resh. The stations are, with the correct spelling: RA, AThOR, TVM, and KPR. There are 4 times the invocation of RA-HVVR and THVTI. In practice, I found the base Resh ritual should be part of a larger system, which includes the assumption of the godforms of RA-HVVR and THVTI, into the composite force which underlies the field of the primary ritual.
Properly executed, the Aeon of Zain is manifested. Between the stations flow the Spirit of God, Shemhemaphorash, and the Spirit of the Mother, Shekinah. The gates are the gate of Babalon, the Yesod as the Seven Days (ShBOTh IMIM), Daath, and the gate of the apparition, or night, as ALIL which is Malkuth.
As the legend goes when Helios descended into the underworld and lit it with his light, so the analogy is here, the Sabbath at the Crossroads, when Horus descends into the Abyss, to meet the Angel and become Horus of the Two Horizons. The broken ritual is about the mundane sun, the restored ritual is the black sun, or Helios. The 'egg' of forces resulting from proper execution is the nexus of the 'trip round back of the tree', or the wormhole. Grant hints at the mechanics of this, but I found a wealth of info in the Hassidic Chabad literature. Chabad is Chokmah, Binah, and Daath. The trinity of the upper Daath, emerges in the lower Daath via Yesod, and this is the vault, jump, or wrynecked path of the vulture of Zoroaster. I recommend the Chabad tome, 'Tanya' as it is called by it's pop followers. Properly spelled, ThNIA. One additional insight, that I'm not sure even devotees of Chabad are aware, is a Qabalistic trick I believe I picked up from Grant.
ThNIA = ThN NIA. 440 + 61 is Leviathan + Ain: The dragon in the waters of the void.
Luckily, for those clumsy or irresponsible magicians, (such as yours truly), the gates are sealed. You will see them clearly if you do the ritual properly, and you will also sense the 'wind' that blows between the gates, the double current of Zain and Horus of the Two Horizons as well. In this nexus or chamber, is where true operations are conducted, and where the Angel meets the man to illuminate the Black Sun in the Qliphoth of Tiphareth, Thagiriron, the sixth hell as the pit of destruction. This is simply a form of Shivadarshana brought about by the union in Tiphareth.
While the gates are sealed, there is still that which can pass through it, somewhat of a 'seepage', although minor by compare if they are flung open, they are still potent. This is why the Rose Cross Ritual should be applied, in my opinion, after working in this chamber. Also realize, that there are gates above and below, which are the paths of Gimmel and Samekh.
In Hecates Fountain, Grant describes other ways to use this for absorb or to manifest energy, and other interesting aspects related to mechanics of the Bindu. But there is much more that can be done, if one chooses. I hope this is useful for some, and I've tried to put the warnings up front, unlike Dr. Strange who read all the warnings after he did his work.
If you are inclined to Qabalistic puzzles, you would be delighted to an analysis on Resh. It's all in the egg, as they say. Good luck.
P.S.
Resh vel Helios, is not a Crowley invention. Grant tells that it is based on an ancient ritual called the Ritual of the Vortex. Crowley's innovation was to 'break it' in such a way it could be published in the mundane world. But, in such a way that it could be properly reassembled by initiates given the keys. Between the related chapters in Hecate's Fountain, The Book of the Law, and your own ingenuity, the proper ritual can be restored. By karmic considerations, I publish this post given my lawfully obtained knowledge, and the lineage related to the stewardship of this publishing vehicle, it is an expounding on that which has already been revealed. Aum.
