Has any thought or action been taken to preserve and re-release Kenneth Grant's excellent footnotes to _Magick_?

That is an interesting suggestion eschatas. I acquired my copy of MAGICK in 1975 e.v. and it is the only copy of BOOK 4/"Magick in Theory and Practice" that I have ever owned. Those footnotes are in many cases the work of both Kenneth Grant and John Symonds, although I believe it is possible to distinguish who was writing what, in many instances. Possibly, Michael could consider including them as an appendix to the proposed Collected Letters volumes ?

To answer the question of the OP: No, there are as yet no plans to re-release the footnotes to Magick. Excellent though they are, they are primarily in the context of the work of which they are footnotes, and their publication outside that work would be unusual. I'll give the matter some thought.
I don't think the forthcoming Selected Letters would be an appropriate place for these. It might be possible to include them in a future 'Collected Miscellanea' volume which would bring together various articles, introductions etc which Kenneth wrote over the years. I was hoping to prepare such a volume for publication later this year or next year, but at present I'm focusing on collecting material for the first volume of the Selected Letters.

It should be roughly 4-7 years from now that all of the key pieces of _Book 4_ enter into public domain, thus making reprints with integral footnotes possible once again.

That's in the U.S., I assume.
In the UK, work which Crowley published in his lifetime, and work which was published posthumously up to 20 or so years after his death, comes out of copyright at the beginning of 2018.

In the light of your remarks about context (of KG's footnotes in AC's Book 4) above, would this mean that a Starfire reprint of the Grant edition of Magick (and whatever else Grant published or commented on of Crowley's) could be a possibility? (If only for the Grant nitroduction and footnotes, apart from other things).

I would absolutely love to read Grant's comments on Magick/Book 4. Like so many others, Grant included, I was introduced to Crowley's work and Thelema via Book 4. Any time I'm asked to recommend an introductory book on Crowley/magick/Thelema it is usually this one I recommend. It would be so great to have a glimpse into Grant's ideas and opinions on the text.
