If I may chime in with a question of my own, the Lam Statement refers to banishing "at the Eight Spaces" and "Banishing in the Eight Directions of Space." Is this condition met if one were to banish using LBRP or Star Ruby? I'm aware of only four directions in these rituals. Or do elements such as the Cross Quabalistic in Star Ruby factor into Kenneth Grant's conception of eight directions? Any insights would be much appreciated! From the Lam Statement:"The invocation of Lam should be performed only in a fully protected Circle, which involves Banishing in the Eight Directions of Space with the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram of Earth, followed by the Invoking Ritual of the Hexagram of Earth"I had always thought Grant was implying the 4 elemental quarters (from the pentagram) and 4 cardinal points of the zodiac (from the Hexagram ritual). I do think that the Cross Qabalistic would add to this, as we have the Crossroads being established. Grant's work was highly influenced by Tantra and the Voodoo of Bertiaux, and both of these emphasize 8 directions of space more definitively, with the quarters as well as in between (E, SE, S, SW, W, NW, N, NE). Sometimes an above and below is also included (but then you are going beyond the 8). Gregory, I've been thinking about this further and I think what tripped me up was the comma in the excerpt above (after "Pentagram of Earth," meaning that I got it into my head that the "Eight Directions" were employed in the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram of Earth (comma) followed by the Hexagram ritual. Once you laid it out more clearly, it now seems obvious that the Eight Directions comprise the performance of the two rituals together! Thanks again for this. This conversation sent me poking around in Sepher Sephiroth to see what equivalencies there are with Lam, using the number 71. There is "silence" and "silent," which I guess is obvious from Crowley's commentary on The Voice of the Silence, and "Nothing; an apparition, image," which is intriguing in the context of Lam. The number 71 is also associated with "Lead, the metal of Saturn," which is interesting if one accepts the notion that the New Aeon is ruled by the planet Saturn (I read this recently in Stephen Flowers's Fire and Ice). But 71 is also associated with "Night Demon of 1st Dec." What is that? I'm not familiar with the concept of night demons. Has Grant written about this at all?
This is a bit of a rambling entry, apologies. This Lam thread sent me down the rabbit hole, I guess!

I'm not sure if its obviously meant to be the combined Pentagram and Hexagram rituals, but it does seem highly suggestive to me. Those are some great connections from Sephir Sephiroth. I would also note that Saturn is often associated with the muladhara chakra at the base of the spine, whose bija mantra is LAM. Michael Staley 's Lam Serpent Sadhana uses the bija mantras to great effect. The decans are the 36 triplicities of the zodiacal signs. Each sign is split up into 3*10 degrees, and each of those 10 degree segments is a decan, with both a "night" and a "day" entity associated with it (and "angel" and a "demon"). There are a wealth of associations with each of them, with corresponding Tarot cards perhaps being the best visual summary (see 777 for some of the tables of associations -- and this handy reference) The first decan is associated with Aries, and the night demon would be Phenex. I'm not sure i see a connection with any of the decans and Lam, who seems to be far outside of any such associations. All of this is treading on territory that is close to what is covered in Nightside of Eden. In particular check out the section on the 27th Tunnel of Parfaxitas: Anyone else make a connection with the decans and Lam?

In my own work with Lam, the circle is established with ritual and visualization. This might be Star Ruby, LBRP, or some other rituals that I work with regularly such as producing a flaming sphere of fiery vajras. If I may chime in with a question of my own, the Lam Statement refers to banishing "at the Eight Spaces" and "Banishing in the Eight Directions of Space." Or do elements such as the Cross Quabalistic in Star Ruby factor into Kenneth Grant's conception of eight directions? Any insights would be much appreciated! I also was intrigued by the 8 spaces, so I decided to create a version of it and my opinion is as follow: LBRP or attaining the cabalistic Cross only seem to cover 2 degrees of freedom (4 points)and are most effective in banishing the space-time canvas surrounding the projected Will (Clearing the mind of residual eggregores from previous operations).I figure, the next Axis is the Macro/Cosmic canvas where the Will projects(it banishes the micro eggregores as well as the macro one residual from sub-counscious areas. So beyond the Cardinal points, I banish above and Below. The I got inspired by the Tesseract; The next axis is projected in Time-Space in both shadow Future and past. It banishes in the probable past and futur. The Lam interface leads to realms of higher dimensions, Past and future are simultaneous there, so You need more dimensions to your banishing ritual. Of course, this is my interpretation and is fully subjective. I begun writing a Chaos magick Ritual I call ''The Banishing of the Tesseract.'' around this theme. I attached my latest draft here. (It is in very early phase of development)

(It is in very early phase of development)I just wrote a lengthy response JHM's post but it vanished after I hit "Create Post," which seems somehow appropriate, given that my entry dealt with the LAM and the void! I won't recreate my post in full, but just want to say thanks, JHM, for sharing your work. I've lately been thinking about reworking the Star Ruby as a solar rite and using it together with the Bornless Ritual as a stellar rite, with both of them united by the concept of IAO. My lengthy post went into the rationale and symbolism behind this concept. I also wanted to ask: is your conception of the Tesseract purely geometrical or were you inspired by Marvel Comics? If the latter, this strikes me as being in the spirit of New Isis Lodge (or NIL, that void where my longer post ended up!). Didn't transmissions like the Book of the Spider incorporate pulp fiction imagery? It seems sort of cool that you'd be doing something similar, incorporating ideas from Marvel into your magical work.

Fundamentally I am a Discordian Chaos Magician, and it was through a comic book that I discovered the Typhonian tradition(Neonomicon).I took the tesseract as a multidimensional entity (Pun intended) for its geometrical property, its mythical lore its pop culture standing and plain awesomness. The hypercube is a very profound thing to understand and Stan Lee was aware of it before most. Most of the living Grand Magus are comic book artists anyway.(Alan Moore, Grant Morrison to name only those 2 icons)
"Do what thou will" precisely speaks of this imho.
Btw, it is very auspicious what happened to your post.A text book Eristic wink.

Just the mention of Alan Moore and Grant Morrison gives me a charge. It's exciting to think that these contemporary icons are part of this continuum, incorporating aspects of the Current into their art and storytelling, and using popular culture as a medium.

For another discussion on this forum that touches on the 8 spaces, see the ' space-marks' thread.

" Lam is the Tibetan word for Way or Path, and Lama is He who Goeth, the specific title of the Gods of Egypt, the Treader of the Path, in Buddhistic phraseology. It's numerical value is 71, the number of this book" Lama Satsang.pdf (192.88 KB)

Great trancelike quality. This would be good in the ritual space while establishing contact. I really like your altar setup and feel. Have you been working with it long.
